Computer Labs for Calculus I (Math 206)

The following computer laboratory assignments have been developed for use in teaching calculus in a computer classroom or supplemental lab setting. DERIVE is the primary software tool. Two of the labs require BASIC programs.

The labs are available as TeX files which may be modified to suit. The file my.mac will also need to be downloaded in order to "TeX" any files. The labs are also available in PostScript format.

• Introduction to DERIVE: includes basics of authoring and plotting expressions (PostScript)
• Lab 1: Elementary DERIVE and graphing skills (PostScript)
• (Lab 1 with Intro: ) Introduction to DERIVE included with graphing lab(PostScript)
• Lab 2: Graphs of Trig Functions (PostScript)
• Lab 3: Finding Tangent Lines by "Zooming-In" and as the "Limit" of Secant Lines (PostScript)
• Lab 4: Comparing the Graph of a Function to that of its Derivative (PostScript)
• Lab 4.5: Experimental Lab dealing with the First and Second Derivative Tests (PostScript)
• Lab 5: Newton's Method via BASIC (PostScript)
• Lab 6: Numerical Integration via BASIC (PostScript)
• Lab 7: Graphing Exponential and Logarithmic Functions and Evaluating Integrals via DERIVE (PostScript)

Computer Labs for Calculus II (Math 207)

The following computer laboratory assignments have been developed for use in teaching calculus in a computer classroom or supplemental lab setting using the software DERIVE.

• Lab 1: Graphs of Transcendental Functions and Evaluating Derivatives and Integrals via DERIVE. (Expanded version of Lab 7, above) (PostScript)
• Lab 2: Applications of Integration (PostScript)
• Lab 3: Partial Fractions and Improper Integrals (PostScript)
• Lab 4: Power Series (slightly awkward since DERIVE doesn't deal well with (-1)^n) (PostScript)
• Lab 5: Polar Graphing (with an inductive approach) (PostScript)
